Partnership Protects Culpeper Crossing
Thanks to a landowner donation, federal funding, and Commonwealth matching grants, the American Battlefield Trust has purchased 12.44 acres along the Rappahannock River. The fee-simple acquisition is part of a larger 200-acre acquisition project in which the owner plans to donate the remaining acreage subject to a life estate.
The parcel, which had been commercially zoned, comprises historically significant battlefield land within the core area of the Battle of Rappahannock Station II. The project protects essential natural and cultural resources, while ensuring public benefit through expanded access to water-based recreational opportunities and expanded park space. The site is being studied for future development as a Virginia State Park.
