The Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT) in partnership with Ducks Unlimited (DU) and the Maryland Environmental Trust (MET) has preserved over 1066 acres in Somerset County, Maryland. The conservation easement was made possible by a North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant procured by DU with assistance from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The easement protects approximately 700 acres of emergent tidal wetlands, 330 acres of forest and forested wetlands, and 36 acres of farmland. The property boasts spectacular views of Pocomoke Sound and has over 6 miles of frontage on Marumsco Creek. In total, including acres preserved with matching projects, over 1,500 acres were preserved in this effort.

The landowner spent years acquiring the parcels that make up this property with the ultimate goal of preserving this ecologically important site. Finalized on LSLT’s 30th anniversary, the project is the largest single easement ever acquired by LSLT and was the culmination of a decade’s worth of work by the landowner and partners.
